Namibia · copper producer
Namibia mines copper, runs a smelter at Tsumeb, and its port of Walvis Bay handles copper from Zambia, the DRC and Botswana. On Copper Supply you can post a requirement or an offer for free and deal only with ID-checked members. Check SKRs and export papers with the document check before you pay.
Namibia has copper mines in the centre and north of the country, including around Tsumeb and Kombat. The Tsumeb smelter is one of the few in the world built to treat complex concentrates, including those high in arsenic, and produces blister copper for refining abroad.
Walvis Bay, on the Atlantic coast, is the country's main port. It handles copper from Zambia and the DRC along the Trans-Caprivi corridor, and from mines in Botswana's Kalahari Copperbelt.
Concentrate is priced on its payable copper, with treatment and refining charges and penalties for elements such as arsenic. See inspection certificates for how assays and weights are agreed.
Trucks from Zambia and the DRC reach Walvis Bay along the Trans-Caprivi corridor, through the Katima Mulilo area. The route is longer than the road to Dar es Salaam but often less congested.
Namibian mineral exports need an export permit from the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy. In 2023 Namibia banned exports of some unprocessed critical minerals, such as lithium ore. Check which rules apply to your product with the Ministry before you agree a deal.
Transit copper carries its export and origin papers from the country of production.
Walvis Bay offers attract buyers who want an Atlantic port. On Copper Supply you can name the port in your listing and see who is checked before you reply.

The Tsumeb smelter treats complex copper concentrates, including those high in arsenic, and produces blister copper that is refined abroad. It also produces sulphuric acid as a by-product.
Walvis Bay gives access to the Atlantic, which suits buyers in Europe and the Americas. The Trans-Caprivi corridor links it to Zambia and the DRC. Transit time and cost depend on the route and current congestion.
